Everything you need to know before you rent

If you are renting a dumpster for the first time in Saginaw, you probably have the same dozen questions everyone does: what it costs, what size, whether the City will mind, and what you cannot throw in. Whether you are a homeowner cleaning out a garage in Old Town or a contractor running a full-scale build near downtown, the answers below are the ones we give on the phone every day. If yours is not here, call (989) 930-1786 — a real person on our local team will answer it.

Part 1

Pricing

How much does a dumpster rental cost in Saginaw, MI?

Our pricing is flat-rate whenever possible and transparent, and the final cost depends on the dumpster size, the rental length, the type of debris, its weight and disposal requirements, and the delivery location — so we quote each job rather than publish prices. You always receive one clear price before delivery, covering delivery, pickup, the rental period and disposal within the weight limit: typically two to three tons on a 10 or 15 yard, three to four on a 20, four to five on a 30 and five to six on a 40. Call (989) 930-1786 for a quote. The cost guide explains what moves the number.

Is delivery and pickup included in the price?

Yes. Delivery, pickup, your rental period and disposal within the weight limit are included in the flat rate. No hidden fees and no fine print.

What causes extra charges?

Going over the weight limit, putting restricted materials in the container, and keeping it past the rental period, which is billed at a daily or weekly rate. Schedule your pickup before the rental period ends to avoid extra charges. We explain the terms up front so there is nothing to find later.

Do you charge more for heavy materials like concrete or dirt?

Heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, brick and roofing shingles can affect pricing, because they reach the weight limit fast. Keep heavy debris separate from light material, use a smaller box for it, and tell us roughly how much there is — our team helps you stay within the weight limit to avoid overage charges.

Do you offer pricing for long-term or multi-dumpster jobs?

Yes. Long-term rentals and multi-dumpster projects can receive special pricing. Tell us the expected duration and how many containers you need, and we quote the whole job, with flexible scheduling and swaps to keep work moving.

What payment methods do you accept?

Major credit cards, business checks and electronic payments, with invoices available for contractors and repeat customers. Full payment or a deposit may be required before delivery. Where an independent provider handles the rental, billing may be handled by that provider, and we tell you on the call.

Part 2

Sizing

What size dumpster do I need?

A 10 for small cleanouts, bathroom remodels and yard debris; a 10 or 15 for kitchen remodels; a 15 for a roof of around 2,000 square feet; a 20 for whole-home cleanouts; a 30 or 40 for new construction, demolition or large cleanouts. Count the job in pickup truck loads — about 3 for a 10, 4 to 5 for a 15, 6 for a 20, 9 for a 30 and 12 for a 40. Weight decides for dense material — see the size guide.

What happens if I order too small?

Too small and you may need a second haul; too large and you are paying for space you do not use. When in doubt, describe the job and let us size it. You can often change sizes if you call before delivery, and if your project grows, we can swap your dumpster or add a second bin.

What is the biggest dumpster you offer?

A 40 yard: about 22 ft × 8 ft × 8 ft, roughly 12 pickup loads, typically 5–6 tons included. It is our largest container.

How full can I fill it?

Debris must be level with or below the top rim for safe transport. If you need more space, call us and we will arrange a swap or an additional bin.

Can I rent a dumpster for a roofing job?

Absolutely. Most residential roofing jobs fit a 15 or 20 yard, and a roof replacement of around 2,000 square feet usually uses a 15. Shingles are heavy, so tell us the size of the roof and we confirm the weight limit before you load.

Part 3

Permits, placement and town rules

Do I need a permit to have a dumpster delivered?

On your own driveway or lot in the City of Saginaw, we found no City dumpster permit — keep the container off the sidewalk and the street. One related rule: if you store building materials outside rather than in the dumpster, the City Code ties that to an active building permit (§ 94.065). In a street, alley or sidewalk, yes. Using or obstructing a City street, alley, right-of-way or public easement, including storing materials there, takes a written permit from the City Engineer; the obstruction has to be barricaded as the City Engineer directs, following the Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the fee doubles if work starts without a permit (City Code § 96.004). No City page names a dumpster permit as such, so call the Engineering Division — in the basement of the Public Services building at 1435 S Washington Ave, 989-759-1410 — or ask us, to confirm which permit applies to your street. State trunklines through the city, such as M-46 and M-13, are MDOT right-of-way. The permit guide and your town page cover the details.

Can the dumpster go on the street if my driveway won't fit it?

In Saginaw, only with the City Engineer's written permit, as above, and remember the City's 3 to 6 a.m. street-parking ban (§ 72.15). Elsewhere: Bay City's Engineering Division issues an Encroachment Permit that covers placing a dumpster in the right-of-way; Midland requires City permission for any use of a street, sidewalk or out-lawn (City Code § 48-1); Auburn wants a City Engineer permit, a cash deposit and insurance before construction materials occupy a street (§ 95.035); St. Charles a Village Manager permit with a cash deposit and insurance, barricaded with warning lights at night (§§ 32-28, 32-29); and Frankenmuth a Department of Public Works permit, a cash deposit and insurance (§ 4.26). In Essexville, nothing may sit on the outlawn — the strip from the curb to the far edge of the sidewalk plus 15 inches, including the driveway apron (§ 4.404) — so the bin goes further up the driveway. Tell us when you book and we plan the placement around it.

Is my street a city street or a state trunkline?

Not always obvious. Inside Saginaw, the City controls the public right-of-way except state routes such as M-13, M-46, M-58, M-81 and M-84, and around the region M-47, M-52, M-57, M-15, I-75 and I-675 are state trunklines too. We found no MDOT permit for placing a private container on a trunkline, so there the box stays on private property. In the townships, the roads are Saginaw County Road Commission right-of-way. Our yard is on S Wheeler St, a City street. If you are not sure, tell us the address and we check which rules apply.

Why do some of your town pages mention hauler licences?

Because a few towns license the company that hauls, and a few keep collection for their own systems. Bay City requires a yearly, non-exclusive City franchise for anyone collecting or transporting construction or demolition debris for clients in the city (City Code § 86-29); Essexville a City refuse-collector licence approved by the City Council (§ 2.710); Tittabawassee Township, around Freeland, a township hauling licence (§ 54-88); and St. Charles Village Council authorization or a licence (§ 28-33). Frankenmuth (Ch. 21 § 2.1), Reese (§ 26-22), Vassar (§ 58-32), Zilwaukee (§ 22-19) and Carrollton Township (§ 42-20) keep refuse collection for the city, village or township and its contractor, so we check the rules before booking there. In the City of Saginaw we found no hauler licence, and Michigan itself requires none. Each town page states its rule.

What about winter and overnight parking?

Plan street placements around plowing and the overnight bans. Saginaw bans parking on any City street from 3 to 6 a.m. (§ 72.15), and a trailer may not sit on a City street for more than an hour (§ 72.18); the City clears state highways and emergency routes first and aims to clear local streets within 72 hours after the snow stops. Midland bans street parking from 3 to 6 a.m., Zilwaukee from 2 to 6 a.m. year-round, Auburn from 2 to 6 a.m. between November 1 and April 1, Frankenmuth from 2 to 6 a.m. between November 1 and April 30, Birch Run from 3 to 7 a.m. and Reese from 2 to 7 a.m. Bay City can order vehicles off local streets within eight hours of a declared major weather event (§ 102-88). A driveway spot keeps the container out of all of that.

Will the dumpster damage my driveway?

We take care with every placement, and driveway protection boards are available on request; on concrete or pavers we recommend boards or plywood under the wheels. Keep it off soft ground and grass, and please do not move the dumpster once it is placed.

How much space does the truck need?

A flat, solid surface such as a driveway or paved area; room for the container — about 12 feet long for a 10 yard, 14 feet for a 15, and about 22 feet for a 20 and up, all about 8 feet wide; enough room for the roll-off truck to back in and set it down; and clear space overhead. Low branches, wires, parked cars and other obstacles are the usual problems, so clear them before the drop.

Part 4

Booking and delivery

How do I book a dumpster?

Call (989) 930-1786. Tell us about your project and the type of debris you plan to throw away, and we recommend the right size, give you a flat-rate quote and schedule delivery on the same call — often for the same day.

How fast can you deliver?

Same-day or next-day across Saginaw whenever possible. If you call before noon, we can often have a dumpster on site that afternoon.

What are your hours?

The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We deliver and pick up Monday through Saturday, with weekend service based on scheduling, and we do not promise night or Sunday drop-offs.

How long can I keep the dumpster?

The standard rental period is typically up to seven days, and your quote confirms it. Need it longer? Call (989) 930-1786 and we extend it at a daily or weekly rate. If you finish early, call or text and we schedule the pickup sooner — in most cases within 24 hours.

Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?

No. As long as we know where to place the dumpster and the area is clear, you do not need to be present.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the scheduled delivery qualify for a full refund. Same-day cancellations or missed deliveries may result in a service fee, and refunds are processed within three to five business days.

Can I book multiple dumpsters at once?

Absolutely. We coordinate multiple deliveries and pickups to keep large projects moving, and contractors can pre-schedule swaps and ongoing pickups.

Part 5

Service area

What towns do you serve?

Saginaw, Zilwaukee, Carrollton, Bridgeport and Freeland; Hemlock, Merrill, St. Charles, Chesaning, Frankenmuth, Birch Run, Reese and Vassar; and Bay City, Essexville, Auburn and Midland — each with its own page. The complete Saginaw guide pulls it together.

Where are you based?

At 1201 S Wheeler St, Saginaw, MI 48602 — inside the City of Saginaw, Saginaw County, on a City street on the west side of the river, near M-46 (Gratiot Avenue).

Is service different in the far towns?

Mostly the timing. Chesaning, our furthest stop, is about 27 road miles from the yard, Midland about 24 and Vassar about 22. Price depends partly on the delivery location, and we say any difference up front.

Is Saginaw Township the same as the City of Saginaw?

No. The City of Saginaw, with 44,202 people at the 2020 Census, and Saginaw Charter Township next door are separate governments with separate rules, and our yard is inside the City, a few hundred metres from the Township line. A street placement in the City goes through the City Engineer. The rules follow the city, village or township the property is in, not the mailing address — tell us the address and we check.

Do some places restrict who can deliver a roll-off?

A few. Frankenmuth's code makes the City the sole and exclusive hauler of solid waste from residential and commercial locations, and the City requires all non-residential dumpsters to take part in its commercial collection (Ch. 21 § 2.1). Reese keeps solid waste collection for the Village's contract hauler (§ 26-22). Vassar keeps household refuse and the downtown blocks for the City and its contract hauler (§ 58-32). Zilwaukee (§ 22-19) and Carrollton Township (§ 42-20) keep refuse collection for the city or township and its contractor. In those five, we check the rules before booking. Each town page says what that town asks for.

Part 6

What we take

What can I put in a dumpster?

Most non-hazardous materials: household junk and furniture; construction debris like wood, drywall, flooring and siding; roofing shingles; metal, plastic, cardboard and packaging; and concrete, brick or asphalt in limited loads, within the weight limit. Yard waste — branches, grass and soil — goes in its own load. If you are ever unsure, just ask and we confirm before delivery.

What can't go in a dumpster?

Paints, solvents and automotive fluids, batteries, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals stay out. Michigan bans used oil, lead-acid batteries, low-level radioactive waste, regulated hazardous waste, liquid waste, sewage and PCBs from its landfills and allows no more than small amounts of whole tires, returnable beverage containers and yard waste (MCL 324.11514). Electronics are not banned from Michigan landfills — the state relies on manufacturer takeback — but we ask you to keep them out and recycle them. If you are unsure about an item, call before loading it. The what can and cannot go in guide says where each of those goes instead.

Can asbestos-containing material go in a dumpster?

No. Michigan landfills may take asbestos waste only if they meet the federal standard for it (MCL 324.11514), so it never goes in our containers. For a regulated demolition or renovation — commercial buildings and apartment buildings of five or more units, for example — EGLE wants notice through its MiEnviro portal at least ten working days ahead. Privately owned homes of four units or fewer are not covered by that federal rule, but MIOSHA still wants notice 10 days before any non-emergency removal of more than 10 linear feet or 15 square feet of friable asbestos, so asbestos rules may apply at a house too.

Can I put concrete, brick or dirt in a regular dumpster?

Yes, in limited loads. Heavy materials like concrete and shingles should be kept separate to avoid weight limits, and they usually go in a smaller container. Concrete, asphalt and metal are recycled whenever possible — easier with a clean load than a mixed one.

Can I put a mattress or an old appliance in?

Mattresses and furniture, yes. Appliances, tell us first: fridges, freezers and AC units need their refrigerant removed by a certified technician before disposal. Our junk removal crew takes appliances, including refrigerators, washers, dryers and stoves, and sends metal and appliances for recycling whenever possible.

What happens to the debris after pickup?

All waste is taken to licensed Mid Michigan recycling and disposal facilities, as Michigan requires of haulers (MCL 324.11527), and we recycle concrete, wood and metal whenever possible to reduce landfill use. Not every public site takes private loads — the Bay City transfer station does not accept waste from private haulers, and the City of Midland Landfill takes only waste generated in Midland County.
