The 30 yard container in Saginaw
The 30 yard takes up the same 22 by 8 feet of ground as the 20 — the extra volume is all height. That makes it the natural pick when a job makes a lot of debris but the site has no more room: a full home or office renovation, a new home build or a demolition, commercial remodeling, a large roofing or re-roofing job, a major cleanout or estate project, a multi-unit or apartment renovation, or a large landscaping or property redevelopment. It holds about 30 cubic yards, roughly nine pickup truck loads, and fits on most job sites and large driveways.
The walls are about six feet high, so most of what goes in is carried or thrown rather than tipped from a wheelbarrow. Contractors with a crew do not mind; a homeowner working alone may prefer a 20 and a swap. On a big job, the 30 keeps things moving without constant bin swaps.
Space needed
a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, paved lot or pad, not the lawn), enough room for the roll-off truck to back in and set it down, and clear space overhead, free of low branches and wires
Big renovations, cleanouts and commercial remodels
Taking several rooms back to the studs fills a 30 in a hurry: cabinets, doors, drywall, framing, flooring and fixtures. Wood, drywall, roofing and mixed construction debris are what it is built for. Full-house cleanouts land here too — furniture, fixtures and bulky household items — and so do office and retail remodels and apartment renovations in multi-unit buildings. From neighborhoods near Old Town Saginaw to the commercial corridors along Bay Road and State Street, it is a common sight on active job sites.
Knocking a building down takes paperwork before it takes a dumpster. For a regulated demolition or renovation — commercial buildings and apartment buildings of five or more units, for example — EGLE must be notified through its MiEnviro portal at least ten working days ahead, and privately owned homes of four units or fewer are not covered by that federal asbestos rule. MIOSHA separately wants notice 10 days before any non-emergency removal of more than 10 linear feet or 15 square feet of friable asbestos, so asbestos rules may still apply at a house. Michigan landfills may take asbestos waste only if they meet the federal standard for it (MCL 324.11514), so asbestos never goes in our roll-offs. We ask what the building is before we quote.
Weight, swaps and long jobs
Typically four to five tons is included — 8,000 to 10,000 pounds — depending on the material. Because the 30 holds so much volume, it is easy to reach the weight limit if heavy material goes in, so plan by weight as well as volume, load evenly and keep heavy debris such as concrete in a smaller box where you can. Our team helps you stay within safe load limits. Jobs that run for weeks usually go on a rotation: flexible pickup scheduling so your site never backs up, a swap-out when the box is full, and extensions at a daily or weekly rate when you need more time.
Suitability
Is the 30 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 30 yard for
- Full home or office renovations
- New home builds and demolition
- Commercial remodeling
- Large roofing and re-roofing jobs
- Major cleanouts, estate projects and apartment renovations
Pick a different size for
- Mostly concrete, brick, dirt or tile — a 10 or 15 manages the weight better
- Small jobs (you would pay for space you do not use)
- Asbestos, paint, oil, fuel or medical waste
- Driveways without about 22 feet of clear length plus room for the truck
Placing a 30 yard container in Saginaw
It needs a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, paved lot or pad, not the lawn), enough room for the roll-off truck to back in and set it down, and clear space overhead, free of low branches and wires. The driveway comes first. In the City of Saginaw we found no City dumpster permit for a bin on your own property — keep it off the sidewalk and street. Using or obstructing a City street, alley or right-of-way, including storing materials there, takes a written permit from the City Engineer, barricaded as the City Engineer directs under the Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the fee doubles if work starts without one (City Code § 96.004). No City page names a dumpster permit as such, so call the Engineering Division at 989-759-1410, or ask us, to confirm which permit applies. The City also bans street parking from 3 to 6 a.m. (§ 72.15). M-46, M-13, M-58, M-81 and M-84 inside the city are state trunklines, and we found no MDOT permit for a private container there, so the box stays on the property. Other towns have their own rules — Bay City's Encroachment Permit covers placing a dumpster, Midland needs City permission for any use of the street (§ 48-1), Auburn, St. Charles and Frankenmuth want a permit, a cash deposit and insurance, and Essexville keeps its outlawn and driveway apron clear (§ 4.404). Check your HOA too. Driveway protection boards are available on request. Each town page covers its own rules.

Answers
30 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
Is a 30 yard too big for a house?
For a regular cleanout, often yes — a whole-home cleanout usually goes in a 20. For a full-house renovation or a large estate cleanout, no — that volume arrives faster than people expect. We will tell you honestly which it is.
Can I do swaps on a 30 yard?
Yes. When the container is full we swap it for an empty one, and contractors with ongoing work can set up flexible pickup schedules at the start.
How much weight is included in a 30 yard?
Typically four to five tons, depending on the material. A 30 full of tile, dirt or concrete can pass that well before it reaches the top, so we estimate heavy loads with you during the quote.
Do I need a permit for a 30 yard?
On your own driveway or lot in the City of Saginaw, we found no City dumpster permit — keep it off the sidewalk and street. In a street, alley or sidewalk, yes: the City Engineer's written permit comes first (City Code § 96.004). M-46, M-13, M-58, M-81 and M-84 are state trunklines inside the city, and we found no MDOT permit for a private container on a state highway, so there the box stays on private property. Other towns have their own rules, and each town page says what that town asks for.
