Roll-off dumpster rental in Vassar
Approx. 22 road miles from the yard, around 29 minutes.
Vassar is approx. 22 road miles east of the yard, around 29 minutes — same-day or next-day options when available, once the City's rules for the job are checked. It is a city of 2,727 at the 2020 Census, in Tuscola County (53,323).
City code has refuse from homes, and from businesses in blocks 9 and 11 downtown, collected by the City or its contract hauler (§ 58-32), yet the City and its hauler won't pick up construction, remodeling, repair or demolition materials beyond a bushel basket (§ 58-39). The City's July 2026 request for proposals for 2027 to 2031 lists no roll-off or construction-debris service. A roll-off job here starts with the City's rules.

Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Vassar
Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- Homes and downtown — refuse from homes of up to three units and from commercial blocks 9 and 11 goes to the City or its contract hauler (§ 58-32).
- Other businesses — commercial and industrial premises outside those blocks may use other collectors who follow the article (§ 58-34(b)).
- Not collected — stones, bricks, plaster, lumber, shingles, concrete, sand, gravel and excavated earth from building work (§ 58-39).
- Overnight parking — parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. is a listed offence (§ 74-92 fine schedule).
- Yard waste — weekly April to November; no tree trunks, stumps or construction debris.
- City Hall — 287 E Huron Ave, 989-823-8517.
What comes out of Vassar properties
Kitchen remodels in 10s and 15s, roofing in 15s and 20s, whole-home clean-outs in 20s, commercial jobs in 30s, and demolition in 40s. The City won't collect brick, plaster, lumber, shingles or concrete (§ 58-39), and yard waste pickup takes no stumps or construction debris.
Michigan law keeps these out of landfills (MCL 324.11514): used oil, lead-acid batteries, regulated hazardous waste, low-level radioactive waste, liquid waste and loads with free liquids, sewage, PCBs and medical waste; asbestos only goes to a landfill set up for it; and no more than a small amount of whole tires, used beverage containers or yard waste — leaves, grass, brush and trimmings under 4 feet long and 2 inches across (MCL 324.11506). Keep yard waste separate from construction debris and household trash and tell us when a load is yard waste. Fridges, freezers and air conditioners need the refrigerant removed by a certified technician first, EGLE says, so ask before loading one. No paint, solvents, automotive fluids, propane tanks, fuel containers, batteries, medical waste, asbestos or hazardous chemicals in our containers. Household chemicals aren't banned from landfills, but EGLE says they are not well suited for disposal there. Michigan has haulers remind customers every year what's banned (MCL 324.11527a) — our what can and can't go in a dumpster guide covers it. Tuscola County Recycling, 987 Ellington St in Caro, takes recyclables, scrap metal, car and home batteries, used motor oil and antifreeze, and tires for a fee — no trash or construction debris.

Sizes
Choosing a container size in Vassar
Weight is what usually decides the size, not how much room the pile takes up.
| Size | Dimensions | Capacity | Weight included | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 Yard Dumpster | about 12 ft long × 8 ft wide × 3.5–4 ft high | about 3 pickup truck loads | 2–3 tons | Bathroom and small kitchen remodels, flooring and tile removal, roofing repairs, garage and attic cleanouts, yard debris and small amounts of concrete or asphalt. |
| 15 Yard Dumpster | about 14 ft long × 8 ft wide × 4.5–5 ft high | about 4–5 pickup truck loads | 2–3 tons | Kitchen and bathroom renovations, roofing tear-offs, flooring, carpet and drywall removal, garage and attic cleanouts, deck or fence removal and yard cleanups. |
| 20 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 8 ft wide × 4.5 ft high | about 6 pickup truck loads | 3–4 tons | Whole-home cleanouts, full kitchen or bathroom remodels, roofing, flooring, drywall or siding replacement, estate cleanups, light demolition and deck or fence tear-downs. |
| 30 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 8 ft wide × 6 ft high | about 9 pickup truck loads | 4–5 tons | Full home or office renovations, new home builds and demolition, commercial remodeling, large roofing jobs, major cleanouts and estate projects, and apartment renovations. |
| 40 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 8 ft wide × 8 ft high | about 12 pickup truck loads | 5–6 tons | Commercial and industrial construction, full-building renovations or demolitions, large office or retail cleanouts, major remodels and estate cleanups, apartment renovations and storm recovery. |
Permits, placement and who may haul in Vassar
Who may haul — read this first: “All refuse accumulated by families in residential dwellings in the city shall be collected, conveyed and disposed of by the city or contract hauler under contract with the city” (§ 58-32(a)), and the same goes for businesses in blocks 9 and 11 (§ 58-32(b)); refuse means all solid waste (§ 58-31). Other commercial and industrial premises may use other collectors (§ 58-34(b)), who must use a watertight, tightly covered vehicle and dispose of refuse outside the city limits (§ 58-40). The City won't collect construction debris (§ 58-39), but the code doesn't say who may haul it from a home, so we check the City's rules before booking a container in Vassar. We're licensed and insured.
On your property: temporary construction structures for solid waste need a building permit from the zoning official, and moving pods may sit on a hard surface such as a driveway for up to seven days, twice a year, without one (§ 86-164(1)). Whether a roll-off counts isn't clear, so we check placement with you before delivery. You do not need to be home as long as the spot is clear, our drivers use boards and careful placement to protect concrete and asphalt, and please don't move the container once it's down — call us and we'll move it.
Sidewalks and streets: temporary permits to partly obstruct a sidewalk run no more than seven days, with at least 48 inches kept clear (§ 66-116(b)). We found no street dumpster permit. Overnight parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. is a ticketable offence (§ 74-92). Driveway first.
State highways: M-15 runs through Vassar. MDOT manages the state highway right-of-way, and we found no MDOT permit for setting a private container on it — so beside a state highway the container goes on private property, never in the right-of-way. We check the exact address.
Covered loads: Michigan bars driving a vehicle unless it is loaded so nothing can drop, sift, leak, blow off or escape, and open loads must be covered or secured (MCL 257.720). Keep debris level with or below the top rim — that's what makes the load safe to transport.
Remodel or tear-down: before a regulated demolition or renovation, EGLE wants notice through its MiEnviro Portal at least 10 working days ahead. Privately owned homes of four or fewer units aren't covered by the federal asbestos rule (NESHAP) unless they come down for urban renewal or as part of a public or commercial project; apartment buildings of five or more units are. Removing more than 10 linear feet or 15 square feet of friable asbestos also needs MIOSHA notice 10 days ahead, so asbestos rules may still apply to a house. Asbestos never goes in our containers; tell us if you find any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Vassar
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — what you are tossing, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for more than you need or run out of space, and you get a flat-rate quote whenever possible that covers delivery, pickup, the rental period and disposal within the weight limit. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protection boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when available. You do not need to be home if the area is clear.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep it level with or below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and other liquids, oil and fuel, chemicals, car batteries, tires, propane tanks and fuel containers, medical waste and asbestos. Electronics go to recycling instead. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.
Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal
Call or text when it is full — in most cases we can collect your bin within 24 hours. The load is covered or tied down for the road and goes to a licensed Mid Michigan disposal or recycling facility, with concrete, wood and metal recycled whenever possible.
