The 10 yard container in Saginaw
The 10 yard is the one we send when the job is one room, one garage or one weekend. At about 12 feet long and 8 feet wide it is the smallest container we run, so it fits most driveways and tight spots around Saginaw — a narrow city lot near Old Town, a pad beside the garage, a corner of a small job site. It holds about 10 cubic yards, roughly three pickup truck loads, which is more than people expect and less than a bathroom gut plus a garage cleanout.
Where the 10 yard earns its keep is weight. Dirt, concrete and roofing shingles reach the limit long before a bigger box looks full, and the 10 typically includes two to three tons, depending on the type of debris. That is why heavy material belongs in a small box, kept apart from the light stuff — the cheapest way to get rid of a pile of broken concrete is rarely the biggest dumpster. Tell us what is going in and we help you stay within the weight limit, so there are no overage charges.
Space needed
a flat, solid spot about 12 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway or paved area, not the lawn), enough room for the roll-off truck to back in and set it down, and clear space overhead, free of low branches and wires
Small remodels, cleanouts and the heavy stuff
A bathroom or small kitchen tear-out — tile, tub, vanity, cabinets, a bit of drywall — sits comfortably in a 10 yard. So does flooring, tile or carpet removal, a roofing repair or a single-layer shingle tear-off, a garage or attic cleanout, a minor storm cleanup, or a small handyman or construction job. Homeowners decluttering before a sale, realtors getting a house ready, landscapers on a small yard and roofers on a small roof all use it.
It suits Saginaw because City trash pickup stops short of a remodel. The City Code puts stones, bricks, plaster, shingles, lumber, concrete and other building and demolition materials, along with debris from contract work, on the list of things City collection will not take (City Code § 50.06), and carts, cans and bags are capped at 50 pounds each (§ 50.05). The City Convenience Station, open to City residents on the second Saturday morning of each month, takes light demolition debris but no roofing shingles, one visit a month. A 10 yard on the driveway takes the whole job in one go.
The weight line on a 10 yard
Typically two to three tons is included — 4,000 to 6,000 pounds — depending on the type of debris. Household junk never gets close. A 10 filled with dirt, concrete or shingles can, so tell us it is coming and we help you plan the load. Spread it evenly, keep heavy debris toward the bottom and everything level with or below the top rim. Going over the weight limit, putting restricted items in the box or keeping it past the rental period can add charges, and we explain all of that on the first call — no hidden fees. Every load leaves covered or tied down: Michigan law bars driving any load that can drop, sift, leak or blow off a vehicle (MCL 257.720).
Suitability
Is the 10 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 10 yard for
- Bathroom or small kitchen remodel
- Flooring, tile or carpet removal
- Garage or attic cleanout
- Roofing repairs and single-layer tear-offs
- Small amounts of concrete, asphalt or dirt within the weight limit
Pick a different size for
- A whole-home cleanout — that is a 20 or a 30
- Bulky furniture from several rooms
- Paint, oil, fuel, batteries, propane tanks, tires, asbestos or medical waste
- Leaves, grass and brush mixed in with household trash
Placing a 10 yard container in Saginaw
It needs a flat, solid spot about 12 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway or paved area, not the lawn), enough room for the roll-off truck to back in and set it down, and clear space overhead, free of low branches and wires. The driveway comes first. In the City of Saginaw we found no City dumpster permit for a bin on your own property — keep it off the sidewalk and street. Using or obstructing a City street, alley or right-of-way, including storing materials there, takes a written permit from the City Engineer, barricaded as the City Engineer directs under the Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the fee doubles if work starts without one (City Code § 96.004). No City page names a dumpster permit as such, so call the Engineering Division at 989-759-1410, or ask us, to confirm which permit applies. The City also bans street parking from 3 to 6 a.m. (§ 72.15). M-46, M-13, M-58, M-81 and M-84 inside the city are state trunklines, and we found no MDOT permit for a private container there, so the box stays on the property. Other towns have their own rules — Bay City's Encroachment Permit covers placing a dumpster, Midland needs City permission for any use of the street (§ 48-1), Auburn, St. Charles and Frankenmuth want a permit, a cash deposit and insurance, and Essexville keeps its outlawn and driveway apron clear (§ 4.404). Check your HOA too. Driveway protection boards are available on request. Each town page covers its own rules.

Answers
10 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
How much space does a 10 yard dumpster need?
The container is about 12 feet long and 8 feet wide. Pick a flat, solid spot such as a driveway or paved area, leave enough room for the roll-off truck to back in and set it down, and check there are no low branches or wires overhead. Move cars and other obstacles out of the way before the drop. Keep it on your own property if you can: we found no City of Saginaw permit for a bin on your own driveway, but using or obstructing a City street, alley or sidewalk takes a written permit from the City Engineer first.
Can I put concrete in a 10 yard dumpster?
Small amounts, yes — it is one of the main reasons people rent the small box. Concrete, asphalt and dirt are heavy, so they fill the weight limit long before the container looks full. Keep heavy material separate from light debris where you can, spread it evenly, and tell us roughly how much there is so we can help you stay within the limit.
How long do I get it for?
The standard rental period is typically up to seven days, and your quote confirms it. Need more time? Call and we extend it at a daily or weekly rate. Finished early? Call or text and we schedule the pickup — in most cases we can collect your bin within 24 hours.
How much does a 10 yard dumpster cost?
It is our smallest container and usually the most budget-friendly rental, but we quote every job on its own rather than publishing prices. The flat rate depends on the delivery location, the type and weight of the debris and how long you keep it, and it covers delivery, pickup, your rental period and disposal within the weight limit, with no hidden fees. Call (989) 930-1786 and you get one clear price before delivery. If the job grows, we can swap it for a bigger box.
