Roll-off dumpster rental in Zilwaukee

Approx. 9 road miles from the yard, around 16 minutes.

Zilwaukee is approx. 9 road miles northeast of the yard, around 16 minutes — same-day or next-day options when available, once the City's rules for the job are checked. It is a city of 1,534 at the 2020 Census, in Saginaw County, with I-75 running through it.

City trash goes through the Mid Michigan Waste Authority — the City's own trash link points there, and Zilwaukee has a seat on MMWA's board. City code reserves the collection of refuse accumulated in the city to the City or its contract hauler (§ 22-19), so a roll-off job here starts with the City's rules.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Zilwaukee

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • City or contract hauler — “All refuse accumulated in the city shall be collected, conveyed, and disposed of by the city or a contract hauler under contract to the city” (§ 22-19(a)).
  • Self-haul allowed — the code's exceptions are the actual producers hauling their own refuse and collectors passing through with refuse from outside the city (§ 22-19(b)).
  • No overnight parking — no vehicle or trailer on a city street from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., all year (§ 24-1, § 28-48).
  • MMWA — City trash, yard waste and recycling run through the Mid Michigan Waste Authority.
  • City Hall — 319 Tittabawassee Rd, (989) 755-0931.

What comes out of Zilwaukee properties

Garage clutter and minor renovations in 10s, flooring and medium remodels in 15s, roofing and whole-home clean-outs in 20s, large clean-outs and commercial jobs in 30s, and demolition in 40s. Concrete, brick and asphalt go in limited loads, kept separate from lighter debris to stay inside weight limits.

Michigan law keeps these out of landfills (MCL 324.11514): used oil, lead-acid batteries, regulated hazardous waste, low-level radioactive waste, liquid waste and loads with free liquids, sewage, PCBs and medical waste; asbestos only goes to a landfill set up for it; and no more than a small amount of whole tires, used beverage containers or yard waste — leaves, grass, brush and trimmings under 4 feet long and 2 inches across (MCL 324.11506). Keep yard waste separate from construction debris and household trash and tell us when a load is yard waste. Fridges, freezers and air conditioners need the refrigerant removed by a certified technician first, EGLE says, so ask before loading one. No paint, solvents, automotive fluids, propane tanks, fuel containers, batteries, medical waste, asbestos or hazardous chemicals in our containers. Household chemicals aren't banned from landfills, but EGLE says they are not well suited for disposal there. Michigan has haulers remind customers every year what's banned (MCL 324.11527a) — our what can and can't go in a dumpster guide covers it. Saginaw County residents can book the Mid Michigan Waste Authority's free household hazardous waste program, which runs April through September by appointment; the County's Clean Sweep takes agricultural pesticides and mercury by appointment ((989) 758-3685); and the County Mosquito Abatement Commission takes residents' used tires, May through August, 10 per property a year, at 705 N Towerline, Saginaw.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Zilwaukee

Who may haul — read this first: “No person shall collect, or convey over any of the streets or alleys of the city, or dispose of any refuse accumulated in the city,” except the City or its contract hauler (§ 22-19(a)); the only exceptions are actual producers hauling their own refuse and collectors hauling refuse from outside the city through it (§ 22-19(b)). Those who may haul must use “a water-tight vehicle provided with a tight cover” and dispose of it outside the city limits (§ 22-22(b)). The code doesn't define refuse or mention roll-offs, so we check the City's rules before booking a container in Zilwaukee. We're licensed and insured.

In the street: no one without legal privilege may block or interfere with traffic on a public street with a barricade, object or device (§ 18-5(b)), and no trash may be left on public premises (§ 18-24). We found no street-use or dumpster permit, so the container goes on private property. You do not need to be home as long as the spot is clear, our drivers use boards and careful placement to protect concrete and asphalt, and please don't move the container once it's down — call us and we'll move it.

Parking: no vehicle or trailer may be parked on a city street between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. (§ 24-1, § 28-48) — all year, and each 24 hours counts as a new violation. Driveway only.

State highways: I-75 and US-23 run through Zilwaukee. MDOT manages the state highway right-of-way, and we found no MDOT permit for setting a private container on it — so beside a state highway the container goes on private property, never in the right-of-way. We check the exact address.

Covered loads: Michigan bars driving a vehicle unless it is loaded so nothing can drop, sift, leak, blow off or escape, and open loads must be covered or secured (MCL 257.720). Keep debris level with or below the top rim — that's what makes the load safe to transport.

Remodel or tear-down: before a regulated demolition or renovation, EGLE wants notice through its MiEnviro Portal at least 10 working days ahead. Privately owned homes of four or fewer units aren't covered by the federal asbestos rule (NESHAP) unless they come down for urban renewal or as part of a public or commercial project; apartment buildings of five or more units are. Removing more than 10 linear feet or 15 square feet of friable asbestos also needs MIOSHA notice 10 days ahead, so asbestos rules may still apply to a house. Asbestos never goes in our containers; tell us if you find any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Zilwaukee

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — what you are tossing, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for more than you need or run out of space, and you get a flat-rate quote whenever possible that covers delivery, pickup, the rental period and disposal within the weight limit. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protection boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when available. You do not need to be home if the area is clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep it level with or below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and other liquids, oil and fuel, chemicals, car batteries, tires, propane tanks and fuel containers, medical waste and asbestos. Electronics go to recycling instead. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or text when it is full — in most cases we can collect your bin within 24 hours. The load is covered or tied down for the road and goes to a licensed Mid Michigan disposal or recycling facility, with concrete, wood and metal recycled whenever possible.
