The 15 yard container in Saginaw
The 15 yard is the step up when the job is too big for a 10 and not quite big enough for a 20. Kitchen and bathroom renovations are the classic fit — cabinets, countertops, vanities, tile and the drywall behind them — and so are roofing tear-offs, flooring, carpet and drywall removal, garage and attic cleanouts, a small remodeling job, a deck or fence coming down, furniture removal and yard cleanups after a storm. It holds about 15 cubic yards, roughly four to five pickup truck loads.
At about 14 feet long it gives you more room than a 10 without taking over the driveway, and the low side walls keep loading easy. If the job mixes wood, drywall, metal and household junk, a 15 usually gives you the right amount of space without going overboard. It is one of our most popular sizes with Saginaw homeowners, small businesses and light contractors.
Space needed
a flat, solid spot about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway or paved area, not the lawn), enough room for the roll-off truck to back in and set it down, and clear space overhead, free of low branches and wires
Kitchens, floors, roofs and decks
A kitchen makes more debris than people expect: by the time the cabinets, the countertops and the drywall are out, a 10 is tight and a 15 is right. Flooring is the same — carpet, laminate and tile — and tile gets heavy fast. Roofing fits too: a roof replacement of around 2,000 square feet usually goes in a 15, bigger roofs in a 20, and shingles are heavy, so we check the weight with you before you book. Break long deck and fence boards down so they load flat.
Yard cleanups and storm debris fit as well — branches, shrubs, soil — but keep the green waste apart from construction debris and household trash. Michigan law keeps all but small amounts of yard waste out of landfills (MCL 324.11514), so a clean load of branches, leaves and brush goes to an approved green-waste or composting facility, and a mixed one has nowhere good to go. If you are pulling out a fence or a deck and clearing the yard on the same job, ask about separate containers for the green waste and the rest.
Weight on a 15 yard
Typically two to three tons is included — 4,000 to 6,000 pounds — depending on the type of debris. Shingles, tile, concrete and wet yard waste reach that quickly; cabinets, drywall, carpet and furniture rarely do. Tell us about any heavy material and our team helps you stay within the limit to avoid extra fees. Load evenly, keep heavy debris toward the bottom and everything level with or below the top rim for safe transport. If most of the load is dense material, a 10 yard for that part is usually the better plan.
Suitability
Is the 15 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 15 yard for
- Kitchen or bathroom renovation
- Roofing tear-offs, with the weight checked first
- Flooring, carpet and drywall removal
- Garage and attic cleanouts
- Deck or fence removal and yard cleanups
Pick a different size for
- Whole-home renovations — go to the 20 or 30
- Loads that are mostly concrete, tile or dirt (weight — a 10 may be better)
- Yard waste mixed in with household trash
- Paint, chemicals, oils, asbestos, propane tanks or tires
Placing a 15 yard container in Saginaw
It needs a flat, solid spot about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway or paved area, not the lawn), enough room for the roll-off truck to back in and set it down, and clear space overhead, free of low branches and wires. The driveway comes first. In the City of Saginaw we found no City dumpster permit for a bin on your own property — keep it off the sidewalk and street. Using or obstructing a City street, alley or right-of-way, including storing materials there, takes a written permit from the City Engineer, barricaded as the City Engineer directs under the Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the fee doubles if work starts without one (City Code § 96.004). No City page names a dumpster permit as such, so call the Engineering Division at 989-759-1410, or ask us, to confirm which permit applies. The City also bans street parking from 3 to 6 a.m. (§ 72.15). M-46, M-13, M-58, M-81 and M-84 inside the city are state trunklines, and we found no MDOT permit for a private container there, so the box stays on the property. Other towns have their own rules — Bay City's Encroachment Permit covers placing a dumpster, Midland needs City permission for any use of the street (§ 48-1), Auburn, St. Charles and Frankenmuth want a permit, a cash deposit and insurance, and Essexville keeps its outlawn and driveway apron clear (§ 4.404). Check your HOA too. Driveway protection boards are available on request. Each town page covers its own rules.

Answers
15 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
How big is a 15 yard dumpster?
About 14 feet long and 8 feet wide, with walls about 4.5 to 5 feet high. It holds about 15 cubic yards, around four to five pickup truck loads.
Will it fit in my driveway?
Most likely — at about 14 feet it fits most driveways, and the driveway is where it should go. The truck needs room to back in and set it down on a flat, solid surface, with no low branches or wires overhead. The street is the fallback, not the plan: in the City of Saginaw, a container in a street, alley or sidewalk needs a written permit from the City Engineer first, barricaded the way the City Engineer directs under the state traffic-control manual, and the fee doubles if the work starts without one (City Code § 96.004). Street parking is also banned citywide from 3 to 6 a.m. (§ 72.15). If you have HOA rules, tell us and check them too.
Can I keep it longer than the standard period?
Yes. The standard rental period is typically up to seven days, and extensions are billed at a daily or weekly rate. Call before the period ends so we can schedule it and you avoid extra charges.
What is the weight limit?
Typically two to three tons, depending on the type of debris. Shingles, tile, concrete and dirt can reach that quickly, so tell us what it is and we will help you stay inside the limit.
Can I mix different materials?
Light materials can be mixed. Heavy materials like concrete and shingles are better kept separate to avoid weight limits, yard waste goes in its own load, and anything on the restricted list stays out. We will guide you on the most cost-effective way to load your bin.
