Construction Dumpster Rental across Saginaw, Bay City, Midland and the Tri-Cities area

A job site does not make one kind of waste. Demolition comes out heavy — concrete, brick, stone, shingles — then framing and drywall come out light and bulky, then the finish phase is packaging and offcuts. We size each phase on its own: a small box for the heavy material, a 20, 30 or 40 for the bulk, and containers rotated on a set schedule or as needed so the crew never waits on a full box. We work with general contractors, roofers, builders, landscapers and demolition crews from downtown Saginaw and Saginaw Township out to Bridgeport, Freeland and the Tri-Cities.

Building debris is its own stream here. City of Saginaw collection will not take stones, bricks, plaster, shingles, lumber, concrete, sand, gravel, earth or other building and demolition materials, or debris from contract work (City Code § 50.06), and Michigan sends every hauler's load to a licensed disposal area or a licensed or registered processing and transfer facility (MCL 324.11527). A clean, separated load and a box sized for the weight keep the job on budget. The Saginaw permit guide covers the street questions.

Demolition, framing, roofing and finish

Concrete, brick, stone and asphalt go in the smaller containers because of weight limits — heavy materials like concrete and shingles are best kept separate. Wood, drywall, plaster, lumber, insulation, metal scraps and wiring, packaging and general job-site waste go in 20s, 30s and 40s. Roofing and re-roofing jobs go in a 10, 15 or 20 depending on the size of the roof. Landscaping and excavation cleanup with soil goes in a small box within the weight limit. New home construction, commercial build-outs, kitchen and bathroom remodels, demolition and interior tear-outs, flooring and drywall installation — every phase has a size.

Asbestos is its own process. EGLE wants notice through its MiEnviro portal at least ten working days before a regulated demolition or renovation — commercial buildings and apartment buildings of five or more units, for example — and privately owned homes of four units or fewer are not covered by the federal rule behind it. MIOSHA separately requires notice 10 days before any non-emergency abatement of more than 10 linear feet or 15 square feet of friable asbestos, so a house job can still be covered. Michigan landfills may take asbestos waste only if they meet the federal standard for it (MCL 324.11514), and it never goes in our roll-offs. We ask what the building is before we quote a demo job.

Job-site placement around Saginaw

On a private lot we place where the driver can reach it and the crew can load it, on a flat, solid surface with clear space overhead, and we help plan the placement to keep safety clearances and site access. In the street it is a permit question. In the City of Saginaw, a written permit from the City Engineer comes before any street, alley or right-of-way obstruction, including materials stored there; barricades follow the Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices as the City Engineer directs, and the fee doubles if the work starts without the permit (City Code § 96.004). Building materials or trash left in the street right-of-way can draw a 72-hour removal notice, after which the City may remove them and bill the property (§ 94.068). In Auburn, occupying a street with construction materials takes a City Engineer permit, a cash deposit and insurance (City Code § 95.035), and in St. Charles a Village Manager permit with a cash deposit and insurance, barricaded with warning lights at night (§§ 32-28, 32-29). Trucks over 20 tons are barred from Beaver Road and West North Street in St. Charles except to deliver to property owners on those streets (§§ 36-119, 36-120). Every load leaves covered or tied down (MCL 257.720).

Construction dumpster rental — the local specifics

Every town writes its own street rule, and most require a permit for anything in the right-of-way. Saginaw's goes through the City Engineer (City Code § 96.004). Bay City needs a written permit from the City Engineer before any obstruction or building materials go in a street or sidewalk (City Code §§ 94-1, 94-2), and its Encroachment Permit covers placing a dumpster. Midland requires City permission for any use of the street, sidewalk or out-lawn (§ 48-1). Auburn and St. Charles want a permit, a cash deposit and insurance before construction materials occupy a street (Auburn § 95.035; St. Charles § 32-28), and Frankenmuth a Department of Public Works permit, a cash deposit and insurance, with barricades and warning lights at night (City Code §§ 4.26, 4.31). Essexville keeps its outlawn — curb to the far edge of the sidewalk plus 15 inches, including the driveway apron — free of objects (§ 4.404), so bins sit further up the driveway there. In the townships around Freeland, Carrollton, Hemlock and Bridgeport the roads are Saginaw County Road Commission right-of-way, and we found no Road Commission permit type for a container. Overnight parking bans add to it: 3 to 6 a.m. in Saginaw and Midland, 2 to 6 a.m. year-round in Zilwaukee, 2 to 6 a.m. in Auburn from November 1 to April 1 and in Frankenmuth from November 1 to April 30, 3 to 7 a.m. in Birch Run and 2 to 7 a.m. in Reese. Every town page quotes the section.

Answers

Construction Dumpster Rental — your questions answered

Do you do swap-outs?

Yes. Once the container is full we haul it and can rotate in an empty one, on a set schedule or as needed. Long-term projects usually set up custom pickup schedules at the start, and contractors with ongoing accounts get priority service.

Can I mix concrete with other debris?

You can, but it costs you. Concrete fills the weight allowance long before the box looks full, so heavy materials like concrete and shingles are best kept separate to avoid weight limits. We usually run a small box for rubble alongside a bigger one for the rest, and concrete, masonry and metal are recycled whenever possible — easier with a clean load.

Can you deliver to a site with no address yet?

Yes — give us the nearest cross streets and a site contact, and we plan the placement with you before the truck goes out.

Do I need a permit for a container on a Saginaw job site?

On the lot itself, we found no City dumpster permit. In the street, alley or sidewalk, yes: a written permit from the City Engineer, barricaded as the City Engineer directs, with the fee doubled if the work starts without one (City Code § 96.004). The Engineering Division is at 1435 S Washington Ave (989-759-1410). A demolition brings its own steps — EGLE notice ten working days ahead of a regulated job, and MIOSHA notice for larger friable asbestos removals. We flag it when you book.

Which towns regulate construction dumpsters?

Most of them, one way or another. Bay City requires a yearly City franchise for anyone hauling construction or demolition debris for clients in the city (City Code § 86-29) and names dumpsters in its Encroachment Permit; Essexville, Tittabawassee Township and St. Charles license haulers; and Saginaw, Bay City, Auburn, St. Charles, Frankenmuth and Midland all require permission before anything occupies a street. Each town page says what that town asks for.
