Residential Dumpster Rental across Saginaw, Bay City, Midland and the Tri-Cities area

Homes around here vary enough that one container does not fit all of them. A narrow city lot near Old Town wants a 10 or a 15 set carefully on a short driveway; a bigger lot out toward Freeland or Frankenmuth may have room for a 20 or a 30. Our 10 and 15 yard dumpsters fit most Saginaw driveways, and the first thing we ask on the phone is what yours looks like.

Most residential jobs are one of three things: a cleanout (a garage, an attic, a basement, an estate, or a whole house before a move or downsizing), a remodel (kitchen, bath, flooring, roof), or the yard — landscaping, a tree coming down, storm cleanup. Each wants a different size and a different talk about weight. The size comparison covers the numbers, the junk removal or dumpster guide helps you pick the service, and the phone call covers your job.

What actually fills a residential container

Home cleanouts lead the way: old furniture, clothing, boxes, toys and general junk, the contents of a garage, attic or basement, an estate or a move-out. Remodels are next — cabinets, flooring, drywall, fixtures. Then the outdoor jobs: shingles off a roof, an old deck or fence, branches and storm debris, small tree limbs, soil and green waste from a garden overhaul, kept in their own load.

The City's own services take some of it, not all. City of Saginaw trash goes through the Mid Michigan Waste Authority, a public authority run by its member communities; carts, cans and bags are capped at 50 pounds each, with up to two bulk items a week (City Code § 50.05). City collection will not take stones, bricks, plaster, shingles, lumber, concrete or other building and demolition materials, or debris from contract work (§ 50.06). The City Convenience Station is open to City residents on the second Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon, one visit a month, with loads tied down and tarped and no roofing shingles. For a houseful, a remodel or a roof, that is what a residential roll-off is for.

Driveway placement, street rules and winter

In Saginaw the driveway comes first. We found no City dumpster permit for a bin on your own property — keep it off the sidewalk and the street. One thing to know if you are storing building materials outside rather than in the dumpster: the City Code ties that to an active building permit (§ 94.065). The street is another matter. Using or obstructing a City street, alley or right-of-way, including storing materials there, takes a written permit from the City Engineer; the obstruction has to be barricaded as the City Engineer directs under the Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the fee doubles if work starts without a permit (City Code § 96.004). No City page names a dumpster permit as such, so call the Engineering Division at 989-759-1410 — or ask us — to confirm which permit applies to your street.

Parking rules push the same way. No vehicle may park on any City street between 3 and 6 a.m. (§ 72.15), and a trailer may not sit on a City street for more than an hour (§ 72.18). In winter, the City clears state highways and emergency routes first and aims to clear local streets within 72 hours after the snow stops, so a container on the driveway stays out of the plow's way. M-46, M-13, M-58, M-81 and M-84 are state trunklines through the city, and we found no MDOT permit for a private container there. HOA rules can cover containers on your lot, so check yours before a longer rental. Each town page says what that town asks for.

Residential dumpster rental — the Michigan specifics

Michigan keeps a short, specific list out of its landfills. State law bans used oil, lead-acid batteries, low-level radioactive waste, regulated hazardous waste, liquid waste and waste with free liquids — wet paint included — sewage and PCBs, bars medical waste unless it has been decontaminated or packaged as the public health code requires, and allows no more than small amounts of whole tires, returnable beverage containers and yard waste (MCL 324.11514). Asbestos waste may go only to a landfill that meets the federal standard for it, so it never goes in our containers. Fridges, freezers and AC units need their refrigerant removed by a certified technician first. Electronics are not banned from Michigan landfills — the state law is a manufacturer takeback program — but recycling is the better route, and we ask you to keep them out. Household chemicals are not banned from landfills either, but they do not belong in a dumpster: Saginaw County residents can take paint, solvents, pesticides and cleaners to the Mid Michigan Waste Authority's free household hazardous waste days, held April to September by appointment (989-781-9555), and car tires to the County Mosquito Abatement Commission at 705 N Towerline, May to August, residents only, up to 10 a year. The what can and cannot go in guide covers the rest.

Answers

Residential Dumpster Rental — your questions answered

Will the dumpster damage my driveway?

We take care with placement on every delivery, and driveway protection boards are available on request. Ask for them before delivery, especially on newer concrete or pavers.

Can I put the dumpster on the street instead?

In the City of Saginaw, only with a written permit from the City Engineer first (City Code § 96.004), barricaded the way the City Engineer directs. The City also bans street parking from 3 to 6 a.m. (§ 72.15). On a state trunkline such as M-46 or M-13 we found no MDOT permit for a private container at all. The driveway is always simpler.

Does my HOA have a say?

On the driveway, often yes. HOA rules can cover containers on your lot, and we do not know your HOA's rules — tell us about them, and check them before you book, especially for a longer rental.

Can I put old appliances in the dumpster?

Tell us first. Fridges, freezers and AC units need their refrigerant removed by a certified technician before they can be disposed of, so they are not a throw-it-in item. If you would rather not deal with it, our junk removal crew takes appliances and sends metal and appliances for recycling whenever possible.

How long can I keep the container?

The standard rental period is typically up to seven days, and your quote confirms it. Need longer? Call and we extend it at a daily or weekly rate. If you finish early, call or text and we pick it up — in most cases within 24 hours.

Do you serve outside Saginaw?

Yes — sixteen more communities: Zilwaukee, Carrollton, Bridgeport and Freeland next door; Hemlock, Merrill, St. Charles, Chesaning, Frankenmuth, Birch Run, Reese and Vassar around Saginaw County and over the Tuscola County line; and Bay City, Essexville, Auburn and Midland. Each has its own page, and each says plainly what that town requires for a container and who may haul. We are licensed and insured.
