Roll-off dumpster rental in Bay City

Approx. 17 road miles from the yard, around 26 minutes.

Bay City is approx. 17 road miles north-northeast of the yard, around 26 minutes — same-day or next-day options when available; call before noon and we can often deliver that same afternoon. It is a city of 32,661 at the 2020 Census, in Bay County (103,856).

City crews won't take materials from building, remodeling, repair or demolition — stones, bricks, plaster, lumber, shingles, gypsum board, concrete (§ 86-74(1)) — and putting contractor's debris out for curbside collection is prohibited (§ 86-75). That's the roll-off job, and City code sets the rules for anyone hauling it.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Bay City

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Hauler franchise — anyone hauling garbage, refuse, construction or demolition debris, recyclables or yard waste in the city, or for clients in the city, needs a yearly non-exclusive City franchise (§ 86-29).
  • Covered dumpsters — “All dumpsters shall be equipped with a working, full-coverage, secure cover” (§ 86-28).
  • Pickup hours — no refuse pickup except between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. (§ 86-30).
  • Encroachment Permit — the City's permit page says it covers placing a dumpster in the right-of-way. Engineering, 1645 Marquette Ave, (989) 894-8181.
  • Transfer station — 2900 N Water St, by appointment, with ID as proof of residency; it takes no waste from private solid waste haulers.
  • Brush — free citywide loose brush collection in April and November; City crews don't remove brush produced by contractors.

What comes out of Bay City properties

Roofing in 15s and 20s, kitchen and bath remodels in 10s and 15s, whole-home clean-outs in 20s, large clean-outs and commercial jobs in 30s, and demolition in 40s. Shingles, gypsum board, plaster and concrete are exactly what City crews turn away (§ 86-74), and contractor brush is left for the contractor — both go in containers.

Michigan law keeps these out of landfills (MCL 324.11514): used oil, lead-acid batteries, regulated hazardous waste, low-level radioactive waste, liquid waste and loads with free liquids, sewage, PCBs and medical waste; asbestos only goes to a landfill set up for it; and no more than a small amount of whole tires, used beverage containers or yard waste — leaves, grass, brush and trimmings under 4 feet long and 2 inches across (MCL 324.11506). Keep yard waste separate from construction debris and household trash and tell us when a load is yard waste. Fridges, freezers and air conditioners need the refrigerant removed by a certified technician first, EGLE says, so ask before loading one. No paint, solvents, automotive fluids, propane tanks, fuel containers, batteries, medical waste, asbestos or hazardous chemicals in our containers. Household chemicals aren't banned from landfills, but EGLE says they are not well suited for disposal there. Michigan has haulers remind customers every year what's banned (MCL 324.11527a) — our what can and can't go in a dumpster guide covers it. We found no Bay County household hazardous waste collection scheduled; ask the Bay County Health Department.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Bay City

Who may haul — the rule that matters: any refuse hauler or business collecting, transporting and disposing of garbage, refuse, “construction or demolition debris,” recyclables or yard waste, operating in the city “or servicing clients within the boundaries of the city,” must first be granted a franchise by the City (§ 86-29). The franchise is non-exclusive, needs insurance filed with the clerk (§ 86-31) and runs one year, renewed yearly. Dumpsters must be kept safe and sanitary with a working, full-coverage, secure cover (§ 86-28), refuse may be picked up only between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. (§ 86-30), and franchisee containers don't go on City property without the City's permission (§ 86-33). We're licensed and insured.

In the street: no obstruction on, under or above any sidewalk, street or other public area without a written permit from the city engineer or another designated department (§ 94-1(a)), and building materials in a street or sidewalk need the same permit and must go as soon as the project is done (§ 94-2). The City's Encroachment Permit covers placing a dumpster in the right-of-way — listed at $25 for under 90 days on the 7/30/2026 fee schedule. Engineering Division, 1645 Marquette Ave, (989) 894-8181.

Parking and weather: no vehicle may stop, stand or park on a lawn extension (§ 102-81(a)), and no unattached trailer may park on a city street except to load or unload (§ 102-89). When the City Manager declares a major weather event, vehicles must be off local streets within eight hours and off trunklines and major streets within two (§ 102-88). We found no nightly ban. Driveway first. You do not need to be home as long as the spot is clear, our drivers use boards and careful placement to protect concrete and asphalt, and please don't move the container once it's down — call us and we'll move it.

State highways: MDOT manages the state highway right-of-way, and we found no MDOT permit for setting a private container on it — so beside a state highway the container goes on private property, never in the right-of-way. We check the exact address.

Covered loads: Michigan bars driving a vehicle unless it is loaded so nothing can drop, sift, leak, blow off or escape, and open loads must be covered or secured (MCL 257.720). Keep debris level with or below the top rim — that's what makes the load safe to transport.

Remodel or tear-down: before a regulated demolition or renovation, EGLE wants notice through its MiEnviro Portal at least 10 working days ahead. Privately owned homes of four or fewer units aren't covered by the federal asbestos rule (NESHAP) unless they come down for urban renewal or as part of a public or commercial project; apartment buildings of five or more units are. Removing more than 10 linear feet or 15 square feet of friable asbestos also needs MIOSHA notice 10 days ahead, so asbestos rules may still apply to a house. Asbestos never goes in our containers; tell us if you find any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Bay City

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — what you are tossing, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for more than you need or run out of space, and you get a flat-rate quote whenever possible that covers delivery, pickup, the rental period and disposal within the weight limit. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protection boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when available. You do not need to be home if the area is clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep it level with or below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint, solvents and other liquids, oil and fuel, chemicals, car batteries, tires, propane tanks and fuel containers, medical waste and asbestos. Electronics go to recycling instead. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call or text when it is full — in most cases we can collect your bin within 24 hours. The load is covered or tied down for the road and goes to a licensed Mid Michigan disposal or recycling facility, with concrete, wood and metal recycled whenever possible.
